Chapter 42: It’s Not Just the Web Browser Anymore Video Transcript
Hi I’m Li Evans and I’m author of Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media. This book is due out on June 24, 2010 but until then you can watch these videos at SMMarketingBook.com. These videos take a chapter of the book, highlight three high level tips in two to three minutes and its in a series I call 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days. So lets take a look at chapter 42, which is “It’s Not Just the Web Browser Anymore“.
This is a pretty radical concept when you start to think about online marketing and that its going beyond the web browser. So lets take a look at tip number one which is “Audiences Consume Media in Many Different Ways“. It’s not just the web browser anymore. Think about it, if you use Seesmic desktop or you use Tweetdeck to communicate in Twitter, you’re not using a web browser. Many people consume things in different ways. You can get basically a video play on your desktop and you don’t ever have to touch a web browser, you just put in the URL and you’re not touching a web browser. So remember that audiences consume media in many different ways.
Tip number two, “Smart Phones, They Matter Now” and that’s whether it’s and Android, like this (showing Motorola Android), or an iPhone, or a BlackBerry, or whatever new smart phones are coming out – they matter. So you want to make sure you are keeping that in mind when you are putting your content out there. These smart phones, these have applications, and those applications have search functions and those applications also connect to different social media communities. So people aren’t just accessing social media communities through web browsers anymore, they are accessing them through smart phones.
Tip number three, which is the final tip for chapter 42, “Desktop Apps Serve Content“. Just as I was talking before about Seesmic Desktop or Tweetdeck, think about it, if you are out there in Tweetdeck or Seesmic desktop and you post a link, people click on that link and where do they go? They go to the page. Now they do go from that desktop app to a web application, but they are not initially being in the web browser to recommend that content or put that content out there. So remember that desktop apps actually do serve up content.
So that’s your three tips for Chapter 42, It’s Not Just the Web Browser Anymore, in the book Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media. I’m Li Evans and I’m author of that book and I’m the person in these videos which is the 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days. You can find them, this video and other videos at SMMarketingBook.com. Stop back tomorrow we’ll have another video for you.
