This week starts the second week in the series 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days where each day I highlight a chapter of the book, Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media. These videos give you a quick run down of what the chapter is about with three high level tips.
Today’s chapter that’s featured, is chapter 6, The Conversation Happens With or With Out You. That’s right, you can’t just stick your head in the sand and think that because you aren’t involved in the conversations, that they’ll just stop or go away. Actually if you aren’t involved, it could harm you more than hurt your marketing efforts. Acting like people aren’t out there sharing their experiences about your brand, products or services could actually insult an audience. There’s a lot more about all of this in the chapter, but today’s three high level tips in this video are:
- Even When You Aren’t Listening, People Talk
- User Generated Content Gives Customers Control
- Don’t Miss the Opportunity to Converse
By understanding these three tips plus the other important points of chapter 6, you can understand how important engaging in social media becomes. Listening too, is a vital piece of the puzzle of creating successful social media marketing strategies.

Chapter 6: The Conversations Happens With or Without You Video Transcript
Hi I’m Li Evans and I’m author of Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media. You can find more information about this book at SMMarketingBook.com. This is a series called 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days which highlights a chapter of the book with three quick tips. So lets get right too it. We’ve got chapter 6 this time, The Conversation Happens With or Without You.
Three tips you have to remember for this. Number one, Even When You Aren’t Listening, People Talk. Doesn’t matter whether you are engaged with them or not, they’re still going to share their experiences with your product, your brand, your service, your company, your employees. You have to remember that when you are dealing with social media you can’t hide your head in the sand and think that just because you’re not there, you’re not listening, those conversations aren’t going on.
Tip number two is that, User Generated Content Gives Customers Control. It gives customers control of a little bit of your product development, your marketing, your customer relations, and even how you work with your customers. These people have a little bit of control. They could be sharing pictures, they could be sharing blog content, they could be sharing all different types of things with their experiences, and it gives them just a little bit more control than what you are probably use too.
Tip number three is, Don’t Miss the Opportunity to Converse. When these people are actually out there sharing and generating this user generated content its the perfect opportunity for you to engage with them, and to find out what makes them tick, what makes them love your product or even what makes them hate your product. you want to keep that in mind that you don’t want to miss these opportunities to converse and use these opportunities of sharing their experiences with you.
Those are you three tips for chapter 6, The Conversation Happens With or Without You, in the book Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media. you can find this video and more videos at SMMarketingBook.com. I’m Liana Evans, and I’ll have more for you tomorrow.
