Today kicks off the series of 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days, that highlights a chapter each day in the book Social Media Marketing, Engaging Strategies for Twitter, Facebook & Other Social Media.  We’re starting off this series with Chapter One in the book, It’s Not Easy, Quick or Cheap and we’ll wrap up the series with Chapter 45, Putting it All Together.  Everything in between will be presented in a random order of chapters highlighting 3 tips from each chapter to give you an idea what each one is all about, however they are just highlights, there’s a lot more detail, examples, images, graphs and information in each one of these chapters that you can find extremely useful if you are at all interested in learning about Social Media Marketing.

Today’s video highlights three tips that marketers & companies need to take into account when looking at starting a social media strategy.  It’s not easy (there’s a lot of planning involved!), it’s not cheap (even your employee’s time is a resource cost to your budget’s bottom line) and it’s not quick (it’s really rare that success comes over night).  I hope you enjoy this first of 45 social media marketing insights and find it helpful in deciding that you would like to buy the book.

Chapter 1: It Isn’t Easy, Quick or Cheap – Social Media Insight Video Transcript

Hi I’m Liana Evans, Li Evans, and I’m the author of Social Media Marketing, Engaging Strategies for Twitter, Facebook & Other Social Media and I’m back with my series here on 45 Social Media Insights Over 45 Days, which highlight a chapter each day in the new book that’s coming out on June 24th, 2010  on Que Press.  You can pre order it on any of your book sites like Amazon or Barnes & Noble.     You can also keep up to date on the book at SMMarketingBook.com

So with that I want to make sure that the first install of this is Chapter 1, It’s not Easy,It’s not Quick and It’s Not Cheap.  I’m going to highlight some very important points of this chapter in one to two minutes so you can help to decide whether or not you really want to buy the book or not, and I hope that you do.  So with that, “It’s Not Easy Quick or Cheap”.  A lot of people really think that social media is free, a lot of them think this happens overnight, and a lot of people think its really easy by just signing up for an account.  Those three things just don’t happen in social media if you want to be successful at it, continuously successful at it.    You have to plan, you have to research and you have to invest resources into it and yes, you actually do have to spend money.  Money in the terms of paying your employees or paying someone to help you with your strategy.

The overnight success, they’re rare and usually accidental.  Take a look at the guys from EepyBird, who do Diet Coke and Mentos.  Those guys had no clue the kind of phenomena that they were going to start and neither did Diet Coke or Mentos when they put them out there.    So those overnight successes are very accidental and they are kind of hard to capitalize on and that’s just the example of “It’s Not Easy” in that respect.       The “Not Cheap” is investing and its not quick either.  A lot of times these things take time to build, it just doesn’t happen overnight.  The EepyBird guys, their success didn’t come as soon as they put the video up there, it took time to grow.

So that’s your insight into chapter 1, It’s Not Easy, It’ns Not Quick and It’s Not Cheap and I go into a lot more detail of what you’ve got to think about when you are looking at starting a social media strategy and what kind of resources you need to plan for.  Stop back tomorrow I’ll have another insight, it won’t be chapter 2, it’ll be another chapter in the bookSocial Media Marketing, Engaging Strategies for Twitter, Facebook & Other Social Media.  I’m Li Evans, I am the author, so stop back at SMMarketingBook.com and we’ll see you with another insight tomorrow.
